Soccer field Juice Saver
February 2006—Here at foodiemom.com I'm beginning to receive new products to try. Cool. The best ones address a real need, like the Sprout Spout, one of my current favorites. This handy screw-on lid attaches snugly to wide-mouth plastic bottles of Gatorade, Ocean Spray, Minute Maid and more, effectively eliminating spills.

The mess involved in traveling with two small children inspired New York dad Bret Halpern to come up with a handy lid for juice drinks. His Sprout Spout allows you (yes, you--it's not just for kids) to easily sip through the tough plastic spout, yet the juice won’t leak out—even when it’s tossed on the floor. Trust me, I just tried it.

Handy for car trips, of course, but I like it for bigger kids who stash a bottle of Gatorade on the soccer or basketball sidelines. (The kids think the name’s kind of goofy, but hey, the lids do work.) I can even envision popping a Sprout Spout lid on a Snapple bottle and putting it in the water bottle holder on the bike…assuming I could unearth the bike in the garage and that it actually has air in the tires and that I could find a helmet that doesn’t have Barbie on it.

But anyway, the handy-dandy lids are available at various retail outlets as well as at sproutspout.com.
